Rabbi Schneider - Rooted in the Lord

Rabbi Schneider - Rooted in the Lord
TOPICS: Rabbi Schneider: Devotions

I'm reading from the Book of Psalms. First chapter. First in the third verse. Hear the Word of God. "Blessed is the person who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners. He will be like a tree planted by streams of water which yields its fruit in season and its leaf does not wither. And then whatever he does, he prospers."

I love this because so much of life is unstable. And if we're not rooted in the rock of God, in his eternal spirit and in his Word, when the circumstances change, then we're no longer productive, we're no longer fruitful. We can feel lost, feel like we've lost our way. But what the Scripture is saying is that when we're rooted in the Lord, regardless of how the circumstances change, even if life gets difficult, we're going to continue to bear fruit because our root is in another realm. It's in the eternal life that we have in God's spirit.

So I want to encourage us today to continue to give time to God's Word. God is our portion, and in order to get anchored in Him, we need to be anchored in the Word. We need to be spending time every day, just beginning, even beginning the day. I love to have people just begin the day just sitting before the Lord. Ask him if you dreamed anything last night, and if you did, ask him, "What did that mean?" Read the Word.

I like to encourage people to read a chapter from the Hebrew Bible, the Old Testament, and a chapter in the New Testament. And when we put God first, Beloved, when we put God first, everything else is added unto us. And we're going to be like a tree firmly rooted by rivers of living water. And we're going to continue to bear fruit throughout our entire lives, even in an increasing way in our old age.
