John Bradshaw - What Punishment Did You Receive?
What punishment did you ever receive that really sticks with you? Maybe you were sent to your room or grounded or perhaps it was something more memorable. I'm not talking about when parents take it too far. Whatever it was, no doubt, you didn't enjoy it.
Often when people get older they're grateful for the discipline their parents meted out when they were children. At the time, not so much. This is Proverbs 3:11, "My son, despise not the chastening of the Lord; neither be weary of His correction". God disciplines in a variety of ways, never out of cruelty, only ever out of a desire to see you grow in your relationship with Him. That word "chastening" in Proverbs 3:11 is often translated as "instruction".
Don't allow God's instruction in your life to turn you away from Him, instead let it lead you closer to His heart of love. I'm John Bradshaw for It Is Written.
